Virginia Tech's Innovation Campus, with presenting sponsor Boeing, hosted the U.S. Drone Soccer District IV Championship as part of their K-12 Initiatives. Four teams competed to advance to the U.S. Drone Soccer National and International Championship in April. Twenty Alexandria City Public School middle school students spent 11 weeks learning how to build, program, fly, and repair a Saker DS200 “Bantam” drone soccer ball. They were joined by teams from Charlottesville, Virginia and Asheboro, North Carolina. The U.S. Drone Soccer National and International Championships take place in Springfield, Virginia on April 26-27.

Middle school students, with the help from K-8 educators, will build, program, and fly drones in drone soccer competitions. The program is sponsored by Boeing, who along with the Innovation Campus, will host a regional qualifying tournament on March 16th. They will also host the U.S. Drone Soccer National Championship the last weekend in April.
